AUTOBOT COMMANDER
OPTIMUS PRIME
with ROLLER
(1984: Generation 1)

from the collection of Shaughan Keaton
Optimus Prime usually came with the accessories above.

However, he sometimes came with these below, the more difficult to find.

From the collection of Shaughan Keaton

Optimus Prime came with:
Roller, either blue or grey
4 black missiles
1 black gun (one of two different versions)
1 black gas pump (one of two different versions)
1 black gas nozzle
2 blue fists, left and right
1 black solid hose
(do not confuse Optimus Prime's hose that usually came with the hose that came with GI Joe figures -- GI Joes were released with hollow hose.)

Optimus Prime's legs were a common breaking point, as were his smoke stacks. On his trailer, the door, door hinges, and the missle launcher robot were easily broken as well. Optimus Prime had a variant that was released with a grey version of Roller, a slightly different gun, and a different gas pump. Optimus was also originally part of the Japanese Diakron/Diaclone series.

It is not clear to whether or not the launchers were intended to shoot. The springs may do nothing more than hold the missles in place.

In Europe in 1990 and 1991, the Transformers Classics line was launched. These were the first re-issues, consisting of Autobot Cars, Throttlebots, Scramble City combiners, four Triple-Changers, the Dinobots (Swoop was never released in Europe), and Optimus Prime. The toys themselves were identical except that there were no rub signs, and the indents were filled in on the combiners, Triple-Changers, and Throttlebots. The classics molds were again modified for G2, (and RID, and Armada, and Universe for Bruticus). The Throttlebots' rub signs were replaced with regular sigils like Bumblebee and Cliffjumper had in 1984. The Throttlebots were rereleased in 1991.
