AUTOBOT MEDIC
RATCHET

(1984: Generation 1)

from the collection of Shawn Keaton
from the collection of Shawn Keaton

Ratchet came with:
1 chrome mounted cannon
1 red peg to mount cannon
3 chrome missiles

Ratchet was quite different from what was pictured in the cartoon and comic; the toy had no head. It is not clear whether the sticker on the seat was intended or not to represent a face. Also, earlier versions of Ratchet had a red cross on top of the roof while later versions did not.

Ironhide and Ratchet are based off an older black Diakron/Diaclone figure that included a tiny human driver, which is the reason for the driver seat.

The Canadian instructions for Ratchet are diffrent from the US version in two ways. In addition to both being in english and french, the toy pics and the box art have red crosses on both the hands and the roof. When the crosses were removed,, they changed all pictures on the box, instructions, and the box art. Information and pictures courtesy of the Transformers Racetrack and Fred's workshop respectively.

For Ratchet, there was first the version with a cross on the roof, and the later version had no cross.
