AUTOBOT CITY COMMANDER
ULTRA MAGNUS
(2002: Commemorative Series I)

from the collection of Fort Max

from the collection of Fort Max

Commemorative Series I Ultra Magnus came with:
1 blue chest shield
1 blue and silver head ('plastic wheel' Ultra Magnus came with a solid blue head)
2 white trailer hitches
2 large white fists
2 small white fists
1 white rifle
2 white missile launchers
4 red missiles

Unlike the other toys from 1986 that got reissiued in the US, Magnus's box had the Transformers: 2010 art (Japan, 1986) -- possibly because it featured Magnus more than the US 1996 art. This is also the only offical use of Magnus's cab's robot mode until Dreamwave used it in More Than Meets the Eye and G1, Volume 2.

Ultra Magnus's jet, repair, base, and jet launcher modes were not mentioned in any Transformer instructions, although the launcher mode w/ Silverbolt was shown on the vintage Ultra Magnus box. All of the extra modes were from the Diaclone Powered Convoy instructions, which also show a pre-Transformer seeker jet on the launcher mode. In fact, the seeker jets fit much better than Silverbolt, as Powered Convoy has made to fit the Diaclone F-15 Robo. The jet formed by the super mode's chest and head can seat a Diaclone pilot, and has spots for 3 wheels, which were only included in the Diaclone release.  Much like Armored Convoy (Diaclone Optimus), who came with Buggy (Diaclone Roller), Powered Convoy came with Super Buggy, who also transformed. for pics of "Super Buggy," go to http://home.student.utwente.nl/j.blok-10/battle_convoy.htm.  His alt mode looks kind of like Full Tilt.
